Fencing in Woori Yallock

Woori Yallock's fence rule depends on which side of the town edge you are: front fences in the streets, paddock fences beyond them.

We connect you with a local fencer who works in the Yarra Valley.

Three landscape overlays, two fence rules

Woori Yallock is a town of about 3,000 people, but its shops and house streets are a small part of the locality; three quarters of it is Green Wedge farmland. Nearly everything is under a landscape overlay, and which one decides your fence:

  • SLO22 on the town's house blocks: a front fence needs a permit unless it is under 1.2 m or more than 75% see-through.
  • SLO6 on most farms, and SLO2 on much of the Rural Conservation land: any fence needs a permit unless it is rural post and open-weave wire under 1.8 m.

A VicPlan property report tells you which one you have.

Checked 25 October 2026 against Wikipedia: Woori Yallock, Victoria, Vicmap Planning, the state's zone and overlay maps (DataVic), measured across the suburb and Yarra Ranges Planning Scheme, Schedules to Clause 42.03 (SLO1–6, SLO22, SLO23).

Low ground and ESO1

About a fifth of the locality is under the flood overlay, much of it on the Rural Conservation land. On land under it, a fence needs a planning permit, even a post-and-wire one that SLO2 or SLO6 would let through. About a third also carries ESO1, whose wording on fences is unclear; ask Yarra Ranges planning about that one.

Town fences and the trail

Side and back fences in town can go to 2 m without a building permit, and SLO22 doesn't touch them, unless another overlay on your report says otherwise. Near the street the limit is 1.5 m within 3 m of it (1.2 m in masonry) before a building permit is needed. The Warburton Trail, on the old railway line, passes the town; a fence against public land is usually not shared, as the Crown and a council holding a park don't contribute. Dividing fences and fence permits have more.
